Mohammed Salah destroying his Liverpool legacy – Wayne Rooney
Former England international Wayne Rooney has waded into the controversy surrounding Egyptian international Mohammed Salah and Liverpool following his bench warming role at the weekend.
Salah, who has struggled to replicate last season’s record-breaking performance recently expressed frustration, insisting he is essentially being made a “scapegoat” despite the massive contribution he has given the team over the years.
Besides, the pacey winger disclosed a break in relationship with manager Arne Slot after being benched for the third consecutive time.
His comment stem from his bench warming role in the sides’ game against Leeds United on Saturday, where both teams shared the spoils at the Elland Road.
“Arne Slot has to show his authority and pull him in and say ‘you are not travelling with the team, what you said is not acceptable’.
He is absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool. It would be sad for him to throw it all away. He’s gone about it all wrong. Time catches up with all of us, and this season he hasn’t looked as his best”
“If I was one of his team-mates, I wouldn’t be happy at all with what he said because this is where Liverpool need him most. If anything, he has thrown Liverpool under the bus with his words.” BBCSports
Meanwhile, the Reds are weighing up the decision to leave Mohamed Salah out of the squad for the Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Tuesday.
This season, the Egyptian forward has featured in nineteen matches across all competitions for Liverpool, netting five goals and providing three assists.
