Algerian defender Aissa Mandi recovers quickly ahead of AFCON
Aissa Mandi has given both Lille and the Algerian national team a huge sigh of relief after escaping with only minor injuries from last weekend’s match against Le Havre.
The defender had to leave the pitch before halftime after feeling sudden pain, raising fears less than three weeks before the start of the 2025 AFCON.
Initial concerns were high as Mandi requested to be substituted in the 39th minute, prompting speculation about a possible muscle injury. Thankfully, medical tests carried out this week showed no serious damage. The Algerian defender has since returned to training and is expected to be in the squad for Lille’s important game tomorrow.
Bruno Genesio eased the tension further, explaining that the substitution was nothing alarming. “Aïssa has recovered well. His substitution in Le Havre was primarily a precautionary measure. Today, he is available and ready to help the team,” he shared.
The national team welcomed the news with great relief. With 111 caps, Mandi remains a pillar in Algeria’s defense, especially with other defenders recovering from injuries. His form and leadership are vital as the Greens prepare for the final squad announcement for the 2025 AFCON.
