Alain Giresse secured his first official victory as the head coach of Senegal, thanks to a stellar performance from Papiss Cissé. In the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Senegal faced Liberia, and Cissé scored both goals for his team. The Newcastle striker netted the first goal from a penalty before adding another with a header from a cross by Stéphane Badji in the second half. This victory propelled Senegal back to the top of the group with 9 points, closely followed by Uganda with 8 points. The final ticket for the last round of qualifications from this group will be contested between Senegal and Uganda in September.
