Ibrahim Maza stuns Borussia Dortmund as Bayer Leverkusen take Cup revenge
Bayer Leverkusen got the perfect revenge on Borussia Dortmund, knocking them out of the DFB-Pokal with a 1–0 win at Signal Iduna Park thanks to a relentless display from Ibrahim Maza.
Three days after losing to BVB in the Bundesliga, Leverkusen returned to Dortmund for the round of 16 and, despite coming under heavy pressure from the hosts, struck first on 34 minutes when Maza finally beat Gregor Kobel at the third attempt after a through ball from Alejandro Grimaldo, holding off Emre Can and Anton to force the ball over the line.
Beyond the goal, the young Algerian delivered a complete performance without the ball, producing several fierce tackles and recovery runs that helped Leverkusen protect their narrow lead until the final whistle.
The victory sends Leverkusen into the quarterfinals, where they will travel to face Hertha Berlin, Maza’s former club, adding extra spice to the next round, while Ramy Bensebaini featured for Dortmund in the closing stages after coming off the bench.
