On a night where Morocco’s rise to become a football powerhouse on the continent became evident, Ghizlane Chebbak was also crowned the CAF Women’s Player of the Year, becoming the first Moroccan woman to receive the honour.
Chebbak’s rise to prominence was cemented by her Golden Boot-winning performances at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, marking her second consecutive top scorer award following her 2022 success.
Currently playing for Saudi club Al Hilal, which she joined in August after a spell with Spain’s Liga F side Levante Badalona, Chebbak has continued to showcase her talent on an international stage.
The 2025 CAF Awards also saw Morocco enjoy a historic night overall. Doha El Madani was named Women’s Young Player of the Year, Othmane Maamma won Men’s Young African Player of the Year, and Morocco’s U-20 Men’s team was voted Best National Team following their historic FIFA U-20 World Cup triumph.
Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou also claimed the Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured the Women’s National Team of the Year award for the third consecutive year.
