CAF Confederation Cup: Zamalek SC make plans for Kaizer Chiefs clash

Zamalek SC are making plans for their early crucial game against Kaizer Chiefs, even though the Group D clash is still weeks away.

As continental football returns after the international break, clubs across Africa are gearing up for the opening round of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup group stages.

Among them are the reigning Confederation Cup champions, Zamalek, who find themselves in a competitive group featuring ZESCO United, Al Masry and the Soweto giants.

While Zamalek host ZESCO in Cairo this Sunday to open their campaign, preparations are already under way for their next assignment.

Reports from Egypt indicate that the club’s board, led by Hussein Labib, has approved an early trip to South Africa, with the squad scheduled to depart on 25 November — four days before the showdown with Chiefs.

The move is intended to give the team ample time to adjust to the conditions in Polokwane, where the match will kick off at 15:00.

Officials are said to be mindful of how the climate and atmosphere could influence the contest.

The highly anticipated fixture is set for 29 November at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
