Burnley striker Lyle Foster has picked Benni McCarthy as the greatest of all time in South African football history.

McCarthy enjoyed an illustrious career, featuring for several top clubs in Europe, including Manchester United. He holds the record as the all-time topscorer for the Bafana Bafana with 31 goals.

Meanwhile, Foster has set sights on surpassing Benni McCarthy as the all-time topscorer for the Bafana Bafana.

While naming McCarthy as South Africa’s great, the 25-year-old insists he would want to follow in the footsteps of the legendary attacker.

“Benni is the GOAT, lots of love for him,” Foster said to iDiski Times. “I cannot lie to you and say I do not think of it. I never thought of it before the skipper mentioned it to me- It’s something I go into every game thinking about, but if it happens, it happens.

“I won’t sit here and say that it’s not something I don’t want to achieve. Everyone wants to achieve things. I have so much respect for Benni, but I would like to follow in his footsteps as well.”

Foster is on track to overtake McCarthy’s records as the player is a dependable striker for Burnley in the English Premiership and is a regular starter for Bafana Bafana.
