Abidal expressed interest in the Monaco project, finding it intriguing. He also mentioned that Claude Puel of Nice, Rémi Garde of Lyon, and PSG had contacted him, but no discussions about the sporting aspect took place with PSG. Abidal also hinted at a possible move to Germany, where he could reunite with his former coach at Barcelona, Pep Guardiola, who is currently coaching Bayern Munich. The New York Red Bulls in MLS were also reported to be interested in signing him.
