Ghanaian singer-songwriter King Promise inspired by Chelsea legend Michael Essien

Ghanaian singer-songwriter King Promise, known for his soulful Afrobeats, finds deep inspiration in Chelsea legend Michael Essien.

Growing up in Accra, King Promise became a die-hard Chelsea fan because of Michael Essien, describing him as “Ghanaian royalty” and a source of hope: “To make it out of nothing to be on the world stage gives the youth hope,” he told Chelsea FC website.  For King Promise, who went from the neighborhoods of Accra to international music fame, Michael Essien’s journey mirrors his own.

King Promise has carved out an impressive career with hits like “CCTV” and international collaborations with artists such as Wizkid.

His music has won several awards, and his concerts sell out in Africa and beyond. Meeting Michael Essien at a show in Denmark left a strong impression on him, Essien, though shy, gave King Promise encouragement.
