South Africa coach Hugo Broos clear about squad for AFCON 2025
Head coach of the South African national team, Hugo Broos says he has a clear idea about his squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Bafana Bafana, who secured bronze medal in the last edition of the continental showpiece will participate in the 35th edition scheduled to take place in Morocco.
The much-anticipated tournament will be held in the North African country between December 2025 and January 2026.
Announcing his squad for their friendly against Zambia, the Belgian tactician asserted he has a clear idea about his squad for the AFCON tournament.
“For instance, Relebohile Mofokeng and Siyabonga Ngezana are not in this team. It will be difficult, and choices will have to be made,” Broos told the media last Thursday as he announced his final 23-man to face Zambia this Friday in Port Elizabeth.
“I am confident about 75-80% of the players who will be in the final squad for AFCON – I have a clear idea in my mind. But there are some decisions that will need to be made.”
“This is the last game in which we can provide opportunities for some new players. Few new players are on the team because I already know the other players well and didn’t need to evaluate them in the upcoming match.
“But I took the opportunity to call and see the new players in training and also assess their mentality for the future.”
Bafana play in Gqeberha this Friday in a friendly international as a preparation match for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
