Hakim Ziyech to be named in Morocco squad for Arab Cup?
Morocco head coach Tarik Sektioui is weighing up the possibility of naming Hakim Ziyech for the 2025 Arab Cup, set to take place from December 1 to 18.
The 32-year-old winger, who recently joined Wydad Casablanca after several months without a club, could make a surprise return to the national setup if he proves his readiness.
His long spell away from competitive action, however, has sparked debate over whether he can regain full fitness in time.
Reports suggest Sektioui’s plan for the Arab Cup involves blending experienced internationals with emerging home-based players.
In that regard, Ziyech’s pedigree, honed at top European clubs and on the world stage, makes him an attractive option.
Still, doubts remain about his match sharpness following his exit from Qatari side Al Duhail and his lengthy absence from regular football.
Ziyech’s move to Wydad in October has given him a fresh start and a platform to rebuild his form. His return to Morocco is seen as both a personal reset and an opportunity to re-establish his place in the national conversation.
For Sektioui, the former Chelsea and Ajax star could offer invaluable experience and creativity while guiding younger players through the tournament’s intensity.
Nevertheless, fitness concerns may limit Ziyech’s role. Should he earn a call-up, he is expected to serve as a squad player rather than a guaranteed starter, as Sektioui continues to favour home-based talents who have maintained consistent playing time.
