South Africa coach Hugo Broos rules out call up for in-form Wydad AC star Thembinkosi Lorch
Head coach of the South Africa national team, Hugo Broos insists in-form Wydad Casablanca forward Thembinkosi Lorch is not the future of the Bafana Bafana despite calls for his inclusion.
Lorch, who plies his trade with the Moroccan giants has rediscovered his form, scoring crucial goals for his outfit. Despite calls for his inclusion in the national team, the Belgian tactician has left him out of his squad for the November international break.
According to Broos, Lorch is not the future for the Bafana Bafana considering his age, while setting sights on young players.
“You have to make choices, that are all, and Lorch was once with us – I think three years ago, when we played in Morocco, and he was playing very well at Pirates at that moment,” said Broos today at Safa House when he announced his 23-man squad for next week’s friendly against Zambia.
“But after a few months he didn’t play anymore, so, okay, now he’s playing well in Morocco, but you have to also look at his age – this player is not the future, I’m very sorry, and if I shouldn’t have other options, okay, maybe I should take him – maybe.”
“It also happened four years ago with Themba and I wanted to look for options, but I didn’t find them, so I had to come back and take Themba, and it turned out to be a very good decision that I took him because you saw what happened with the team.”
Lorch last night scored his fourth goal in his eight appearances for Wydad as they moved to the top of the standings of the Botola Pro League.
