The Zambian national football team, renowned as the Chipolopolos, has officially touched down in San Pedro, Ivory Coast. This arrival comes just hours before the kick-off of the highly anticipated tournament.

Under the seasoned leadership of coach Avram Grant, the Chipolopolos have successfully established their base camp in San Pedro, marking the initiation of their campaign in Group F, where they will face formidable opponents in the quest for continental glory.

In contrast to some other national teams that chose to make grand arrivals in traditional outfits or with ceremonial gestures, the Zambian delegation remained focused on their mission, foregoing any extravagant displays.

Having been in Ivory Coast since Thursday, January 11, the Zambian squad utilized the time for final preparations, intensifying their training regimen.

Prior to their arrival in San Pedro, the Chipolopolos engaged in a ten-day training camp in Saudi Arabia. During this period, they tested their mettle in a friendly match against Cameroon, concluding the encounter with a 1-1 draw.

The imminent start of AFCON 2023 signals the beginning of Zambia’s journey in the tournament.

Their first group-stage match is scheduled for January 17, where they will face the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Chipolopolos, under the seasoned guidance of Avram Grant, are poised to compete at the highest level, with aspirations of making a significant impact on the continental stage.
