FIFA has officially confirmed that Morocco will host the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series 2025, a special set of international friendly matches celebrating women’s football, scheduled to kick off on October 26, 2025.

The event was initially planned for Dubai, but visa complications affecting several Afghan players prompted FIFA to relocate the tournament.

The switch to Morocco was made to guarantee that every participating team could compete safely and without restrictions. With its proven track record of successfully hosting major global sporting events, Morocco was seen as the ideal alternative thanks to its world-class infrastructure and strong government support.

A historic highlight of this edition will be the debut of Afghan Women United — a newly formed team made up of Afghan players who fled their homeland in 2021 following the Taliban’s ban on women’s participation in sports.

The initiative falls under FIFA’s Action Plan for Afghan Women’s Football, which seeks to provide opportunities and international exposure for displaced Afghan female players.

The team’s name, chosen by the players themselves, symbolises unity, resilience, and the unbreakable spirit of women who continue to chase their dreams despite adversity.

Although Afghan Women United cannot officially represent Afghanistan under FIFA regulations, their participation will carry a powerful message about courage, inclusion, and the transformative power of sport.

The series will also mark a milestone for Libya and Chad, as both nations’ women’s national teams are set to make their international debuts.

Their matches will count toward the official FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking — a significant step forward in the development of women’s football in North Africa and the Sahel region.

At its core, the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series 2025 embodies football’s ability to bridge divides, empower women, and inspire young girls around the world to believe in their potential.

FIFA is expected to announce the full schedule and match venues in the coming weeks. All fixtures will be streamed live across FIFA’s digital platforms.
