The Senegalese Professional Football League (LSFP) has confirmed a one-week postponement of the 2025–26 Ligue 1 season, which will now kick off on the weekend of November 1–2 instead of the previously scheduled October 25–26.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the LSFP cited two key reasons for the delay — the installation of the new Executive Committee of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), which will take place on Saturday, 25 October, and the official visit of a FIFA delegation to Dakar during the same period.

According to the League, the change is intended to ensure that both high-profile events receive the necessary attention without overlapping with the season opener.

The LSFP stressed that the adjustment is purely logistical and that the competition’s official fixture list, released on October 4, remains intact.

The schedule will simply shift forward by one week.

The League also announced that its traditional pre-season press conference, originally planned for this week, will now take place on Wednesday, 30 October.

The event will mark the official launch of the new campaign and outline the key developments for the upcoming season.

In its communication, the LSFP emphasised that preparations for the start of the season are well underway.

Activities include the ongoing training of security personnel and match commissioners, final rehearsals for the presentation of the League’s official anthem, and the forthcoming launch of the LSFP’s new mobile application — a digital platform aimed at improving fan engagement and accessibility to league updates.

The League wishes to thank the clubs, partners and supporters for their understanding in this context of logistical adjustment, the statement read, underlining its commitment to ensuring a smooth and professionally organised start to the championship.

The brief postponement comes at a time of renewed organisational activity within Senegalese football.

The transition to a new FSF leadership marks an important moment for the game in the country, while the presence of the FIFA delegation underlines the growing international interest in the continued development of Senegal’s football structures.

Despite the delay, expectations remain high for the 2025–26 Ligue 1 campaign, with clubs finalising their squads and gearing up for what promises to be another competitive season.

The LSFP’s assurance that all logistical details are on track has helped ease concerns among clubs and fans alike.

As the countdown resumes, the weekend of November 1–2 now stands as the new curtain-raiser for Senegal’s professional football calendar — one set to unfold against a backdrop of administrative renewal and global attention.
