Senegalese striker Mame Baba Thiam is set to depart Kayserispor, opting for an unexpected destination within the Turkish Championship.
Having delivered an impressive first half of the season with eleven goals and two assists in 19 matches, Thiam, who spent two and a half seasons with Kayserispor, is embarking on a new chapter in his footballing journey.
Despite initial speculation linking him to Galatasaray, the 31-year-old forward has chosen a path less traveled, aligning himself with a team facing significant challenges.
The official confirmation came from Kayserispor on Thursday, January 11, revealing that an agreement had been reached with Pendikspor for the transfer of Mame Baba Thiam.
While the move may raise eyebrows given Pendikspor’s current position as second-to-last in the Süper Lig standings, Kayserispor shed light on the circumstances leading to this decision.
Spokesperson for Kayserispor, Samet KOÇ, disclosed, “We have extended contract offers to Mame Baba several times in recent months.
However, we could not reach an agreement within the framework of the economic program determined by Kayserispor for the new period.
Instead of leaving for free at the end of the season because his contract ends in June, he joined a team during this transfer window to bring money to Kayserispor.
I thank him for this behavior and wish him success at Pendikspor.”
Thiam’s departure signifies a shift from the mid-table comforts of Kayserispor to a team grappling with relegation concerns.
The intricacies of this unexpected move add an intriguing layer to the narrative of the winter transfer window in Turkish football, leaving fans and pundits alike eager to witness the unfolding chapters of Thiam’s career at Pendikspor.
