Vinicius Junior reaches 300 matches for Real Madrid, joining Brazilian legends

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso came to the defence of Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior following his side’s narrow 1-0 win over Getafe in La Liga on Sunday.

The result, sealed by Kylian Mbappe’s late strike, returned Los Blancos to the top of the table after a tense contest at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

Vinicius, whose family traces its roots to Cameroon, made a significant impact off the bench in a match that tested Madrid’s patience and resolve.

His direct play and pace unsettled the Getafe defence, and it was his duel with Allan Nyom that ultimately saw the home defender sent off only seconds after coming on.

That dismissal shifted the momentum in Madrid’s favour and paved the way for Mbappe’s decisive goal minutes later.

Alonso praised Vinicius for his contribution and attitude, highlighting his influence on the result.

“He had a good impact on the match. The cards he drew, the substitutions… all of that gave us an advantage that we took advantage of. It’s a good example that everyone is important,” the Madrid coach said after the match.

The Spanish tactician acknowledged that it was far from a stylish performance but stressed that his team showed the necessary grit to claim victory.

“Coming to Getafe isn’t easy,” Alonso noted. “You have to know how to compete and put your best foot forward. We had to roll up our sleeves because we knew it wasn’t going to be the most spectacular match, and that’s what it turned out to be.”

When asked if Madrid rely too heavily on Mbappe, Alonso dismissed the notion, saying, “We’re very happy with him.

“He’s been decisive with his goals and his involvement. But there are many other things behind his goals. They’re all important.”

The win strengthened Madrid’s title push ahead of next weekend’s El Clásico against Barcelona.
