Gabon have missed out on the 2026 World Cup qualification despite securing victory over Burundi on final day.
Prior to the final round of the qualifying series, Gabon were one point behind Group F leaders, Ivory Coast. With both teams securing victories, Gabon have missed out on qualification.
Ivory Coast, led by Emerse Fae confirmed their place with a resounding win over Kenya at the Stade Olympique Alasanne Ouattara Stadium on Tuesday.
The first of the match ended in a pulsating goalless draw, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net.
However, the breakthrough came few minutes to full time, with Bryan Ngoua opening the scoring in the 85th minute before Mario Lemina cemented victory in stoppage time.
The reigning AFCON champions finished on top of Group F with 26 points from 10 matches, edging out Gabon in one of the tightest qualification races on the continent.
Despite missing out qualification, Gabon would be proud of themselves, finishing as one of the second best placed teams in the qualifiers.
