Niger beat Zambia in final World Cup qualifier to finish second in Group E
Niger emerged victorious in their final 2026 World Cup qualifier against Zambia, defeating their opponent 1-0 to finish second in Group E.
In a much-anticipated encounter on Sunday afternoon, the Chipolopolo played host to Niger at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Despite not securing qualification the mundial, Niger ensured they beat Zambia on final day to finish in a respectable position.
The first half of the game ended in a pulsating goalless draw, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net in a high-stake clash.
Putting on a stellar performance, Niger cruised to a narrow victory in the second half, with Daniel Sosah emerging as the hero after netting the match-winner in the 56th-minute mark.
Morocco secured the top spot in Group E with 21 points, earning them one of the African slots for the FIFA World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico next year, with Niger finishing second with 15 points.
Tanzania placed third with 10 points, followed by Zambia with 9 points, with Congo finishing bottom in Group E.
