Senegal coach Pape Thiaw is fired up for his outfit crucial final 2026 World Cup qualifier against Mauritania.
Currently, the Taranga Lions sit top of Group B with 21 points, two points adrift of second place team, DR Congo. Meanwhile, qualification for the mundial will be determined on Tuesday, as Senegal takes on Mauritania in Diamniadio in a decisive match.
Senegal boosted their qualification chances last Friday, inflicting a 5-0 victory obver South Sudan in an away fixture.
Speaking after the game, Pape Thiaw asserted the goal was to secure maximum points from the game, while setting sights on crunch final match against Mauritania.
“We took the three points against a Sudanese team that gave us trouble in the first half; we were able to rectify the situation in the second period and win. That’s done, we’re still in the race because it seems that DR Congo also won. We have another final at home,” said Senegal coach Pape Thiaw.
Senegal will be hoping to join elite football countries like Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and others for the biggest soccer mundial next year.
