Sofiane Feghouli, a pivotal executive of the Algerian national team and a key member of the triumphant 2019 Fennecs squad, provides a glimpse into the team’s preparations and ambitions for the upcoming tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
Reflecting on the team’s training camp in Togo, Feghouli emphasized the meticulous planning behind their acclimatization efforts.
“The team worked very well; we knew the purpose of being here in Togo. The intention was to acclimatize, given the intense heat and humidity.
We aimed to arrive fully prepared. In Ivory Coast, we expect a similar climate, and we approached our training with diligence to avoid any surprises as we enter the competition,” Feghouli shared with Algerian media.
Confident about Algeria’s state of readiness, Feghouli expressed the collective determination within the team, stating, “Everyone is ready, and, above all, everyone wants to win the competition.
To become African champions, we must boast the best defense. Defensive excellence is crucial. We possess the quality and capability to score at any given moment.”
With their first match scheduled against Angola on January 15, Feghouli’s words underscore the Fennecs’ commitment to securing a strong defensive foundation, believing it to be a cornerstone in their pursuit of another AFCON title.
The midfielder’s assurance and focus on defensive prowess align with Algeria’s footballing ethos, setting the stage for what promises to be an intense and spirited campaign for AFCON 2023.
Algeria, known for its footballing excellence, aims to build on its past successes and add another chapter to its storied history in African football.
