Othman Jenayah, the president of the reigning champions of the Tunisian Premier League, Étoile du Sahel, announced his resignation from his position on Wednesday, citing “health reasons.”
The football club suffered a 2-0 defeat in the Tunisian Super Cup against Olympique Béja last Sunday.
In a recorded statement posted on Étoile du Sahel’s Facebook page, Jenayah expressed, “The agreement was for me to assume the role of club president for a few months, but it extended to more than a year and a half.”

Jenayah, a former player for Étoile du Sahel, acknowledged that he had achieved certain goals while failing to meet others.
He highlighted the repairs he made within the club, headquartered in Sousse.
He clarified that his health condition does not permit him to continue performing his duties as the president of the club.
At the age of 74, Jenayah took over the presidency of the club once again in July 2022, having previously served as the president of Étoile du Sahel from 1993 to 2006.
Under Jenayah’s leadership, Étoile du Sahel reclaimed the league title, securing it for the 11th time in its history and the first time since the 2015-2016 season.
