Pyramids march on with convincing win over APR FC in Kigali

The defending champions made a bold statement. Egyptian giants Pyramids FC began their CAF Champions League campaign with a 2-0 away triumph over Rwanda’s APR FC at Kigali Bili Stadium.

The victory puts the African champions in a strong position ahead of next Sunday’s return leg in Cairo, where the winner will meet Ethiopian Insurance in the next round.

Congolese striker Feston Mayele was the hero of the night, scoring in the 49th and 86th minutes to seal the result. His sharp finishing underlined his role as the team’s spearhead in their quest to retain the trophy.

The encounter carried moments of tension. Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić was shown a red card by referee Abdelaziz Bah after repeatedly protesting decisions. “The defending champions are merciless.. Pyramids opens their campaign with a valuable away win,” fans echoed after the final whistle.

Having recently lifted the Tri-Confederations Cup following victories over Auckland City and Al-Ahli, Pyramids showed the same hunger and composure. Their balanced display in Kigali was a reminder that their ambition remains clear, defending the African crown with authority.
