Al Masry warns of league exit after controversial defeat

Al Masry SC has shaken Egyptian football with an official warning that it may quit the Premier League following Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Petrojet in Suez.

Club chairman Kamel Abu Ali voiced frustration over what the Port Said side described as suspicious officiating decisions that changed the outcome of the game.

In a statement, Al Masry accused referee Mohamed Abbas Qabil and his assistant Khaled El Ghandour of overturning a penalty and a legitimate goal for the team, while later awarding Petrojet what the club called a “comical” penalty after a VAR check. The club suggested these calls were not mere mistakes but deliberate actions against them.

The statement added that Egyptian refereeing “has begun to steer match results in favor of certain teams.”

It continued: “In recent years, Al Masry has been subjected to repeated refereeing errors, the most recent of which was the failure of the refereeing team in the Zamalek match… to award a legitimate penalty kick to Al Masry, as everyone can attest.”

Al Masry’s board remains in permanent session, considering escalation, including freezing activity or withdrawing unless reforms take place.
