‘It was amazing’ – Alexander Isak reacts to first Liverpool goal

Swedish striker of Eritrean descent, Alexander Isak, shared his delight on Tuesday night after netting his debut goal for Liverpool in their 2-1 victory against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

The forward, signed from Newcastle United, started the Third Round tie of the domestic cup competition and equalised with an assist from Federico Chiesa in the first half.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Isak said it felt amazing to score his first goal for Liverpool.

“Amazing. It was good to get back out there and score my first goal here, at Anfield. The win as well. So, it’s a good night,” Isak told ITV Sport.

The striker continued, “I should have scored that one (the chance early on) as well, but that’s a part of being a striker – you miss some and then you score some. I think the most important (thing) is to shake it off and to be ready for the next one.

“I just try to play my game and not think too much. I feel confident in myself that things will work out and that when I get my chances, I’ll put them away – that’s my mindset. I’m happy that I put one away today.”

After netting his first, Isak is hoping to score more for Liverpool in the coming games.
