Morocco coach Mohamed Wahbi acknowledges challenges ahead of U-20 World Cup
Morocco U-20 head coach Mohamed Wahbi has highlighted the challenges facing his squad as they prepare for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
The Atlas Cubs find themselves in a daunting Group C alongside continental powerhouses Brazil, Mexico, and Spain.
Speaking in a television interview, Wahbi reflected on the difficulties in assembling his squad. “It wasn’t easy,” he said.
“Several clubs retained their players, which regulations permit. We are grateful to the clubs that cooperated and allowed the players to participate, while also understanding the circumstances that prevented others from joining.”
Despite the tough draw, Wahbi remains optimistic.
“We’ve been drawn into a very challenging group, arguably the toughest ever, with Brazil, Spain, and Mexico, all continental champions. But we won’t give up. We are ready to rise to the challenge and compete for qualification, and why not aim for a deep run in the World Cup if the opportunity arises. I have great confidence in the players and their quality, which they demonstrated during the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt.”
Morocco earned their World Cup berth by reaching the final of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Cairo earlier this year.
