Tunisian Ligue 1 set for high-stakes encounters as Club Africain face CS Sfaxien

The fifth round of Tunisia’s Ligue 1 reaches its climax on Sunday with two decisive fixtures scheduled for 16:00 GMT, headlined by the much-anticipated classic between Club Africain and CS Sfaxien.

Club Africain, who sit third in the standings with nine points from their opening four matches, welcome a struggling CS Sfaxien side currently down in 13th place with just four points collected so far.

The encounter, to be staged at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Rades, is expected to draw intense attention as one of the marquee fixtures of Tunisian football.

Match referee Sadok Selmi will oversee proceedings, supported by video assistant referee (VAR) Naim Hosni.

The clash promises more than just points — it is a contest of prestige between two of the country’s most decorated clubs.

For Club Africain, victory would help maintain their momentum in the title race, where early leaders are already beginning to establish themselves.

CS Sfaxien, however, enter the match under pressure, needing a positive result to pull away from the lower reaches of the table.

The meeting is set to test their resilience as they search for consistency in what has been a difficult start to their campaign.

Away from Rades, AS Gabés will play host to Espérance Sportive de Zarzis in a fixture that pits contrasting ambitions against one another.

Gabés, positioned ninth with five points from their first four matches, are eager to use home advantage to strengthen their standing and showcase greater intent.

In contrast, ES Zarzis have emerged as one of the season’s early pace-setters.

Sitting second on 10 points, they remain within striking distance of top spot and will be determined to claim another victory to keep the pressure on the league leaders.

Referee Khalil Jarii will take charge of the game, with Khaled Gouider serving as VAR.

The contest offers Zarzis the opportunity to underline their strong start, while also providing Gabés with a platform to prove they can compete against the division’s frontrunners.

Both fixtures promise intrigue and intensity, with Club Africain–CS Sfaxien delivering the weekend’s standout spectacle, and Gabés–Zarzis offering another crucial test of form and ambition.
