Bayern Munich considered move for Algerian international Amine Gouiri
Bayern Munich explored the possibility of signing Amine Gouiri in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, but the Algerian international ultimately remained with Olympique de Marseille.
With Harry Kane briefly sidelined and squad depth a concern, Bayern sought attacking reinforcements late in the window.
Gouiri was on the shortlist of potential targets for the Bavarian club.
However, negotiations never advanced, and the German champions eventually opted for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, securing him on loan with an option to buy.
Despite the interest from one of Europe’s biggest clubs, Gouiri is understood to be content with his situation at Marseille.
The 25-year-old forward is under contract with the French side until June 2029 and is focused on continuing his development at the Stade Vélodrome.
Sources close to the player indicate that he has no regrets about missing out on the Bayern move, preferring instead to build on the foundations he has laid in Ligue 1.
A product of Lyon’s academy, Gouiri joined Marseille in 2023 and quickly established himself as an important part of the squad.
Known for his versatility across the frontline and his ability to link up play, he has become a valuable asset for OM both domestically and in Europe.
Although his current season has only seen him feature in two Ligue 1 matches so far, expectations remain high, and his market valuation stands at €30 million according to Transfermarkt.
For Marseille, retaining Gouiri was a significant boost amid a transfer window that saw several of their key players linked with moves abroad.
His decision to commit to the club reflects both his confidence in the project under development at OM and his desire to play a central role in their ambitions to return to the top tier of French football.
While Bayern secured Jackson as cover for Kane, Gouiri remains central to Marseille’s attacking plans.
The Ligue 1 side will soon face FC Lorient in their Matchday 4 fixture, with supporters eager to see their Algerian forward play a decisive role.
Gouiri’s story highlights the fine margins of modern transfer dealings: a player on the radar of a European powerhouse one week can just as quickly find himself recommitted to a long-term project at his current club. For now, Marseille will be relieved that their number 9 remains firmly in their ranks.
