Beninese striker Steve Mounié faces Bundesliga struggles after Augsburg move

Benin forward Steve Mounié is reportedly set to leave German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg.

Information gathered from BILD indicates that the attacker is on his way to Turkey, where he looks set to sign for Alyansapor on loan.

The move is driven largely by Mounié’s determination to secure regular playing time ahead of key international commitments.

With the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled from December 21 to January 18, and World Cup qualifiers also on the horizon, the 30-year-old is eager to remain a central figure for Benin. Without consistent minutes at club level, his place in the national team could be at risk.

At Augsburg, Mounié has slipped down the pecking order under coach Sandro Wagner, who has preferred French strikers Samuel Essende and Phillip Tietz in recent weeks.

A transfer to Angers SCO appeared close two weeks ago, but financial difficulties prevented the deal from materialising.

Now, with the Turkish transfer window set to close on September 12, Alyanspor have emerged as a lifeline for the forward to revive his club career while maintaining his international ambitions.
