Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush named in Egypt squad for World Cup qualifiers

Omar Marmoush’s night ended far too soon as the forward left Egypt’s clash with Burkina Faso through injury, leaving both his national team and Manchester City worried about what comes next.

The striker pulled up in the opening stages after colliding with a defender and immediately went down clutching his knee. Despite attempts to shake it off, he could not continue and was replaced inside the first ten minutes by Osama Faisal. Coach Hossam Hassan looked unsettled on the touchline as his plans took an early hit.

Medical tests are set to follow, and they will decide how long Marmoush will be sidelined. Those results are crucial for City, who face a hectic run that includes a derby against Manchester United, a Champions League test with Napoli, and a Premier League showdown with Arsenal.

For Egypt, the worry was mixed with relief. The team still sits top of Group A with 20 points, five clear of Burkina Faso. A win in the next round would book their ticket to the 2026 World Cup with games to spare.
