2026 World Cup qualifier: Wilfried Singo cleared to feature for Ivory Coast
Wilfried Singo has linked up with the Ivory Coast squad ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Gabon and is in contention to play in Tuesday’s crucial fixture.
The 23-year-old right-back, who recently completed a move to Turkish champions Galatasaray, had been expected to arrive before the Elephants’ last outing against Burundi on Friday but only joined up with the national team camp over the weekend.
According to Séléphanto Football, his late arrival will not prevent him from being involved against Gabon on matchday eight of the qualifiers.
If selected, Singo could make his first competitive appearance for Ivory Coast since finalising his transfer to Istanbul.
Ivory Coast have enjoyed a strong qualifying campaign so far, with the squad blending established internationals and emerging talent.
Singo’s presence offers coach Emerse Faé greater options on the right side of defence, where his pace, strength and ability to drive forward are likely to be valuable assets.
The Elephants head into the Gabon clash seeking to consolidate their position in the group and maintain momentum as the qualification race intensifies.
Victory would move them closer to securing a spot at the 2026 finals, while defeat could open the door for rivals to close the gap.
Singo’s availability will be seen as a welcome boost for the side, who are balancing the demands of back-to-back qualifiers within a tight schedule.
His recent performances at club level have been widely praised, and Galatasaray secured his services to reinforce their defence for the new season.
The encounter with Gabon is expected to be a stern test.
The Panthers have proven difficult opponents in previous meetings and remain determined to keep their own qualification hopes alive.
For Ivory Coast, the match not only carries significance in terms of points but also provides an opportunity to demonstrate their strength in depth, with players like Singo ready to step in.
All eyes will now be on Faé’s team selection to see whether the new Galatasaray defender is handed a starting role or introduced as an impact substitute.
Either way, Singo’s inclusion marks an important reinforcement for a side aiming to reach football’s biggest stage once again.
