Mamadou Kaly Sène made his first appearance for Middlesbrough as the Championship side extended their flawless start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United, moving to the top of the table.

Under the guidance of manager Rob Edwards, Middlesbrough have now won all four of their opening matches, consolidating their position as early frontrunners.

This latest triumph, secured at the Riverside Stadium, marked the club’s third consecutive clean sheet and showcased their growing consistency.

The decisive moment came in the 64th minute when forward Tommy Conway converted a well-timed finish, giving Middlesbrough the advantage they would hold until the final whistle.

Conway’s goal underlined the team’s attacking intent and clinical edge in front of goal, traits that have been instrumental in their early success.

Mamadou Kaly Sène, the new signing, was introduced in the 69th minute, making his competitive debut for the club. The Senegalese forward quickly adapted to the pace of the Championship, showing glimpses of the skill and movement that convinced Middlesbrough to secure his services.

Although he did not score, his contribution helped maintain pressure on Sheffield United and allowed the team to see out the win.

Sheffield United, in contrast, have struggled to find form in the opening weeks, suffering their fourth defeat in four games. Despite some early promise in the first half, they were unable to break through Middlesbrough’s organised defence, leaving them rooted near the bottom of the table.

The win also allowed Middlesbrough to take full advantage of Stoke City’s recent defeat to West Bromwich Albion, placing them firmly in sole possession of first place. Edwards’ squad, operating without goalkeeper Seny Dieng, demonstrated both resilience and tactical discipline, essential qualities for a side aiming to challenge for promotion this season.

Manager Rob Edwards praised his squad following the match, highlighting both their collective effort and individual performances. “The boys showed exactly what we’ve been working on in training,” Edwards said. “Tommy’s goal was a reward for their hard work, and Mamadou’s debut was a positive sign of the depth we now have in our squad.”

Conway’s strike, coupled with Sène’s debut, provided a perfect illustration of Middlesbrough’s balance between established talent and new additions.

Supporters will be encouraged by the seamless integration of the Senegalese forward, whose pace and technical ability could prove vital as the campaign progresses.

With four victories from four, Middlesbrough have set the early pace in the Championship, combining solid defensive organisation with effective attacking transitions.

The team’s momentum and confidence will be crucial as they look to sustain their challenge at the top of the table and establish themselves as genuine promotion contenders.

Mamadou Kaly Sène’s first appearance may well be the beginning of a promising tenure at Middlesbrough, as the club aims to maintain its perfect record and build on the strong foundation laid by Edwards and his squad.
