Zamalek faces uncertain future over October land dispute
Zamalek SC is bracing for a storm as its hopes of financial stability hinge on reclaiming the 6th of October City land seized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Communities.
The project was seen as a lifeline for the club, promising to ease mounting financial pressure and secure long-term growth.
Treasurer Hossam El-Mandouh confirmed the crisis during a televised interview, warning that failure to recover the land would leave Zamalek in a difficult financial position. He explained that the club had secured all necessary approvals and licenses to establish investment facilities, with a Ministry deadline stretching until June 2026.
He firmly rejected claims that Zamalek planned to construct a residential compound or mall, insisting the land was earmarked strictly for legal projects.
“The October land is in a prime location, well-known to everyone, and we cannot undertake illegal construction. We also did not obtain loans from banks secured by the land, but we did receive funds from businessmen who have partnered with the club,” he said.
El-Mandouh added that without the land, Zamalek must repay those backers, creating a severe financial challenge.
