FC Nantes are set to miss out on Germany international of Cameroonian descent Armel Bella-Kotchap in the current transfer widow.

The French Ligue outfit has been on the market seeking for a replacement for Nathan Zézé following his departure to Saudi Arabia.

Nantes had agreed a deal with Southampton for the acquisition of the 23-year-old defender. He was expected to arrive in the North of France to complete the move.

In a dramatic turn of an event, the move appears to have fallen apart, with the Southampton marksman expected to join Serie A side Hellas Verona.

Nantes consider the case closed and will not attempt to retake the lead, having been put off by the actions of the defender’s entourage.

The French outfit are still expected to recruit a new centre-back, even though they have been satisfied with the performances of Chidozie Awaziem (28) and Tylel Tati (17) against Paris Saint-Germain and RC Strasbourg Alsace.

Both games ended in 1-0 defeat for Nantes, but the two defenders showed promising signs in the early stages of their partnership.
