The Egyptian Football Association showed its firm hand after a tense week in the Premier League, handing out tough punishments to keep order on the pitch.

Al-Ittihad Alexandria coach Ahmed Sami felt the full weight of the decision as he was suspended for three matches following his expulsion in the clash with Ismaily in the third round. In addition, he was fined 20,000 Egyptian pounds “for attempting to assault the referee and one of his assistants,” according to the association’s statement.

Ismaily also faced disciplinary action. Ahmed El-Agouz, head of the club’s football department, was suspended for one match and fined 10,000 Egyptian pounds for his dismissal. He received an additional fine of 5,000 pounds for entering the field to protest.

Despite the drama, Al-Ittihad managed a 1-0 win over Ismaily at Al-Salam Stadium, thanks to Nigerian forward John Ebuka.

Other cases included a one-match ban for Haras El-Hodoud’s Mohamed Bayoumi after two yellow cards, while Modern Sport’s Cameroonian striker Arnold Ayba was suspended for reaching three bookings.
