CHAN 2024: Kenya face Madagascar as Tanzania clash with Morocco in quarter-finals

The quarter-finals of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) begin today, with hosts Kenya meeting Madagascar in Nairobi before Tanzania face Morocco in Dar es Salaam.

Kenya, making their first appearance in the knockout stage of the competition, advanced as group winners after a strong showing in the opening round.

Led by South African legend Benni McCarthy, the Harambee Stars impressed by defeating Morocco in a statement victory.

Now, they aim to extend their dream run by reaching the semi-finals on home soil.

Madagascar arrive with pedigree, having finished third in the previous edition while making their tournament debut.

Though their start this year was unsteady—with a draw against Mauritania and a loss to Tanzania—the Barea recovered impressively, securing consecutive victories against the Central African Republic and Burkina Faso to reach the last eight.

With momentum on their side, they will look to replicate their 2023 achievement and secure back-to-back semi-final appearances.

The day’s second match sees Tanzania chase history against two-time champions Morocco.

The Taifa Stars, like Kenya, are experiencing their first quarter-final at CHAN and are eager to make the most of home support in Dar es Salaam.

Head coach Hemed Suleiman, fittingly nicknamed Morocco, is determined to halt the progress of the North Africans and carry his side into uncharted territory.

For Morocco, this fixture offers a chance at redemption.

Touted among the pre-tournament favourites, they were humbled by Kenya in the group stage and now find themselves under pressure to respond.

A win would mark their first semi-final appearance since 2020 and reaffirm their status as a continental force in the competition.

Fans across Africa are expected to generate another electric atmosphere, with the presence of two host nations adding extra weight to the contests.

The knockout phase continues on Saturday with Sudan facing Algeria in Zanzibar and Uganda taking on Senegal in Kampala.

Match schedule and broadcast information (Friday, 22 August):

  • Kenya vs Madagascar – 5:00pm local time (GMT+3), 5:00pm in Madagascar, 4:00pm in France. Venue: Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi. Broadcast: beIN Sport 9 (France), KTN (Kenya), TVM (Madagascar).
  • Tanzania vs Morocco – 8:00pm local time (GMT+3), 6:00pm in Morocco, 7:00pm in France. Venue: Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam. Broadcast: beIN Sport 9 (France), beIN Sport HD6 (Morocco).

With the stakes raised and home advantage in play, today’s matches promise to deliver the drama and intensity that define CHAN’s knockout rounds.
