Cameroonian midfielder Franco Tongya Heubang nears Cesena move after Salernitana relegation
Franco Tongya Heubang is on the verge of leaving Salernitana, with Cesena emerging as the frontrunner to secure the Cameroonian midfielder’s signature.
The 23-year-old only joined Salernitana in the summer of 2024 but is now seeking a swift departure after the club’s relegation to Serie C.
Negotiations between Cesena and Salernitana are understood to be at an advanced stage, though an agreement over the transfer fee remains the final obstacle before a deal can be completed.
Cesena have expressed strong interest in bringing Tongya into their squad, viewing him as a key reinforcement ahead of the new campaign.
Tongya endured a challenging season with Salernitana, who were relegated following a disappointing campaign. Despite the club’s struggles, he made 28 appearances in Serie B, contributing three goals.
His performances were not enough to prevent the drop, but they were sufficient to attract interest from other clubs eager to capitalise on his availability.
Valued at around €1 million on Transfermarkt, Tongya represents a relatively affordable yet experienced option for Cesena, who are eager to strengthen their midfield.
Talks between the two clubs have reportedly progressed positively, and optimism is growing that an agreement can be reached in the coming days.
Trained at Juventus, where he came through the youth academy, Tongya’s career has already taken him across Europe. After leaving Turin, he had a brief spell with Olympique de Marseille before moving on to Odense BK in Denmark.
He later joined AEK Larnaca in Cyprus, where he gained further international experience, before returning to Italy to sign for Salernitana last year.
Cesena are now looking to add Tongya’s creativity and versatility to their squad as they prepare for the upcoming season. His ability to operate both as an attacking midfielder and in deeper central roles is seen as a valuable asset.
For Tongya, the move offers an opportunity to re-establish himself in Italian football at a club with ambitions of pushing up the divisions.
While no official announcement has yet been made, the coming days are expected to be decisive. Should the two clubs reach an agreement, Tongya could be unveiled as Cesena’s latest signing before the close of the transfer window.
For the Cameroonian international, the move would mark yet another chapter in a career that has already seen him experience football in Italy, France, Denmark and Cyprus. At just 23 years of age, he has accumulated a wealth of experience and now seeks stability in an environment where he can continue to grow and make a significant impact.
Cesena supporters will be eager to see the deal finalised, with the prospect of a talented and dynamic midfielder joining their ranks. With negotiations progressing, Franco Tongya Heubang’s future looks increasingly likely to be in Cesena colours.
