As the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations looms on the horizon, former Ghanaian international and midfielder, Anthony Annan, acknowledges the substantial challenges that lie ahead for the Black Stars.
The national squad, preparing for its twenty-fourth appearance in the tournament, faces a daunting task as they gear up for the 34th edition set to commence on January 13, 2024, in Ivory Coast.
Expressing his perspective on the formidable journey awaiting the Black Stars, Anthony Annan remarked, “The task facing the Black Stars is great,” during a discussion with the Ghanaian press.
The seasoned midfielder, who represented Ghana in various international competitions, offered insights into the demanding nature of the upcoming tournament.
Despite the magnitude of the challenge, Annan remains optimistic about the Black Stars’ prospects if they prioritize cohesive teamwork in each encounter.
“If they {Black Stars} play regularly with each other, everything will be fine, like in our time,” suggested Annan, emphasizing the importance of synergy and collective effort.
Ghana finds itself placed in Group B alongside formidable opponents Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique. The Black Stars are scheduled to kick off their AFCON 2023 campaign on January 14, 2024, facing Cape Verde at the Houphouet-Boigny stadium in Abidjan.
The Ghanaian squad, seeking its fifth continental title, carries the hopes of a passionate fan base eagerly anticipating success after a 41-year wait.
Ghana last clinched the AFCON trophy in 1982 and has since reached the final three times, falling short on each occasion.
As the nation anticipates the tournament’s kickoff, the Black Stars are poised for a rigorous quest to make a mark in African football history.
