Valencia CF have made a formal bid to sign Mozambique international Geny Catamo from Sporting Lisbon, tabling an offer worth €17 million for the highly rated winger.

Catamo, 24, is contracted to the Portuguese champions until June 2028 and has become a key figure for both club and country, earning 28 international caps and scoring 10 goals for Mozambique.

His combination of pace, close control, and incisive attacking play has caught the attention of Valencia’s sporting directors, who see him as a major addition to their offensive options ahead of the new season.

Sources close to the negotiations say Sporting Lisbon have yet to formally respond to Valencia’s proposal, though the bid exceeds the player’s current estimated market value of €15 million, as listed by Transfermarkt. The Portuguese club is understood to be weighing the financial terms against Catamo’s importance to their squad, with coach Rúben Amorim keen to retain his attacking depth.

Catamo’s stock has risen sharply over the past two seasons, with standout performances in domestic and European competitions. Known for his agility and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations, he has become one of Sporting’s most dynamic threats on the right flank.

His versatility also allows him to operate across multiple attacking roles, a quality that has reportedly impressed Valencia head coach Carlos Corberán.

Corberán is believed to have identified the Mozambican as a priority signing to bolster the Spanish side’s frontline. Valencia endured periods of inconsistency in the final third last season, and the addition of Catamo’s creativity and direct running could provide the spark needed to lift the team higher up the La Liga table.

While talks are ongoing, the transfer interest underscores Valencia’s intent to reinforce their squad with young, high-potential players who can make an immediate impact.

Catamo’s arrival would mark one of the club’s most significant summer acquisitions, should Sporting agree to part ways with him.

For Sporting Lisbon, the decision will likely hinge on whether they believe the €17 million bid represents fair value for a player whose trajectory suggests further growth — both on the pitch and in potential resale value.

The Portuguese champions are also balancing their own ambitions for the upcoming season, which includes defending their domestic title and making a strong push in Europe.

As it stands, Catamo continues to train with Sporting while speculation over his future grows. With the transfer window still open, Valencia are expected to maintain pressure in the hope of striking an agreement before rival clubs enter the race.

If completed, the move would see one of Mozambique’s brightest footballing talents make the leap to Spain’s top flight, further raising his international profile and giving him the platform to showcase his skills against some of the best defenders in world football.
