Senegal: Saikou Seydi honoured as leading voice in African sports journalism

Senegalese sports journalist Saikou Seydi has emerged as one of the most respected figures in African sports media, celebrated for his professionalism and the depth of his reporting.

Best known for hosting Omnisports on Emedia Invest—a programme widely followed for its sharp analysis of African sporting events—Seydi brought a distinctive blend of insight and clarity to the screen.

His six-year tenure at Emedia came to an end on 10 January 2025, marking the conclusion of a partnership that began in 2018.

Seydi’s exceptional work has been recognised well beyond Senegal.

At the inaugural AIPS Africa Awards held in Abidjan, he achieved a rare double, claiming both the Radio Award and the Television Award.

Such recognition across two different media platforms underscored his versatility and mastery in delivering sports content to diverse audiences.

In his acceptance speech, Seydi dedicated the honours to the late Salif Diallo of APS, a figure he described as having contributed greatly to his career.

The tribute reflected Seydi’s deep sense of gratitude and his acknowledgment of the mentorship that helped shape his professional journey.

His commitment to African sports discourse continues this month as he joins the panel for the 13th Carréfoot Webinar, scheduled for Monday, 11 August at 19:00 GMT.

The discussion will tackle the theme: “Senegalese football, a model of governance in Africa?”—a topic expected to generate vigorous debate among participants and viewers.

Seydi will share the virtual stage with a panel of distinguished journalists:
