Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been excused from the team ahead of their season opener against Stellenbosch in the South African Premier League.

The Soweto giants will have to battle for points without their head coach as his wife was involved in a fatal car accident in Tunisia.

In a high-stake clash on Sunday, the Soweto giants will face Stellenbosch as both teams will be yearning for maximum points.

However, Nabi has been given time to attend to her wife at this challenging period.

“Kaizer Chiefs would like to extend our heartfelt wishes to coach Nabi and his family during this difficult time. We ask all supporters to keep them in their thoughts and prayers,” a statement from the club reads.

Kaizer Chiefs struggled last season despite ending their 10-year trophy drought in South Africa by clinching the FA Cup.

Having missed out on the top eight at the end of last season, Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to make a meaningful impact this time.
