CAF has confirmed the list of match officials for the opening Group D matches of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with Zimbabwean referee Brighton Chimene and Egyptian official Mahmoud Ahmed Nagy Mosa set to oversee Tuesday’s double-header.

The day’s first fixture will see Congo take on Sudan at Amaan Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 14:00 GMT. Chimene will serve as the central referee, supported on the touchlines by assistant referees Lucky Kegakologetswe of Botswana and Roland Nii Dodoo Addy from Ghana. Gambia’s Lamin Jammeh will assume the role of fourth official for the match.

In the video assistant referee (VAR) booth, South African official Abongile Tom will take charge, assisted by Algeria’s Lahlou Benbraham. This experienced officiating lineup is expected to ensure a smooth and fair contest between the Congolese Red Devils and the Sudanese Nile Crocodiles.

The second match of the day features a much-anticipated West African derby between Senegal and Nigeria. Mahmoud Ahmed Nagy Mosa of Egypt has been appointed to officiate this encounter, with Djibouti’s Robleh Dirir Eleyeh Robleh and Eritrea’s Sirak Samuel Menghis named as his assistant referees.

Libya’s Abdulrazg Ahmed has been selected as the fourth official for the derby, which is likely to be one of the highlights of the group stage. On VAR duty, Egyptian official Mahmoud Ashorn will lead the team, supported by Bamlak Tessema Weyesa from Ethiopia.

With high stakes in both fixtures and regional pride on the line, CAF’s choice to assign experienced and diverse officiating teams reflects its commitment to maintaining a high standard of refereeing throughout the tournament.

Group D’s opening day is expected to set the tone for what promises to be an exciting chapter of CHAN 2024.
