Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi poised to join Besiktas on three-year deal
Wilfred Ndidi is on the verge of completing a move to Turkish giants Besiktas, with the Nigerian international set to leave Leicester City during the summer transfer window.
According to journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, the defensive midfielder is preparing to sign a three-year contract with Besiktas, which will also include an option for a fourth season.
The deal brings an end to Ndidi’s time with Leicester City, where he spent several years as a key figure in the heart of midfield.
Ndidi’s impending move to Turkey marks a significant step in his career following Leicester’s recent struggles in the Premier League.
Though no official statement has yet been released by either club, advanced negotiations are reportedly nearing completion, with all terms understood to be agreed in principle.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international has long been admired for his composure, tactical discipline, and ability to break up opposition play.
Since joining Leicester from Genk in January 2017, Ndidi made over 240 appearances across all competitions and was widely considered one of the most consistent defensive midfielders in England’s top flight during his peak years.
His time at Leicester saw him play a pivotal role in the club’s 2021 FA Cup triumph and multiple top-half league finishes under former manager Brendan Rodgers.
However, with Leicester’s relegation in 2023 and a transitional phase underway, Ndidi’s departure had been widely anticipated this summer.
Besiktas, one of Turkey’s most decorated clubs, appears to have moved swiftly to secure the experienced midfielder’s services.
The Istanbul-based side is looking to bolster its squad for the upcoming season as it aims to reclaim the Super Lig title and perform strongly in European competitions.
The structure of the deal, including an optional fourth year, suggests Besiktas is planning for the long term with Ndidi at the core of its midfield. His arrival is expected to add strength and stability to a team that struggled with inconsistency in key positions last season.
While financial details of the contract have not been disclosed, the reported agreement underlines Besiktas’ intent to attract high-calibre players from across Europe. Ndidi’s Premier League pedigree and international experience with Nigeria make him a significant acquisition for the Turkish side.
Ndidi’s move also comes at a time when several Nigerian players are making high-profile moves across Europe, reflecting a strong period for the Super Eagles on the international stage. His presence in the Turkish Super Lig will undoubtedly attract attention from fans in Nigeria and beyond.
With the final paperwork and medical examinations expected to follow shortly, an official confirmation from both Besiktas and Leicester City is anticipated in the coming days.
Once completed, the move will formally end Ndidi’s seven-and-a-half-year association with the Foxes and usher in a new chapter for the Nigerian star in Istanbul.
