After securing the title of African champion at the last Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in South Africa, Nigeria is already planning for the Confederations Cup scheduled for December 2013 in Brazil. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is looking to strengthen the Super Eagles for a successful performance in this competition. To achieve this, the NFF is reportedly considering approaching Sidney Sam to bolster the national team. According to NFF spokesperson Ademola Olajire, the Leverkusen attacking midfielder, born in Germany to Nigerian parents, may be invited to join the Super Eagles camp in May 2023 in Germany. Sydney Sam, aged 25, has had a standout season with Bayer Leverkusen and has represented Germany at the U19, U21, and U23 levels.
