Former FC Sochaux coach Eric Hely has opined that France defender of Malian descent Ibrahima Konate is better than Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger.
This comes amid Real Madrid’s interest in signing Konate from Liverpool.
According to Eric Hely, the Liverpool centre-back will succeed at Real Madrid should a move materialise.
“I would emphasise his charisma and humility, which make him a leader. For a boy his age, that was very clear. He wanted to succeed and worked tirelessly, even alone. If he did it at Liverpool, why not at Real Madrid? I’m sure he won’t talk much in Xabi [Alonso’s] dressing room at first.
“He will listen and learn, and then he will establish himself in the team with his personality. I don’t see him as a Varane. He’s more of a Desailly type. He exudes a lot of confidence and has very good footwork.
“I would say better than Rudiger, who is undoubtedly an athlete, but I think Ibrahima is technically stronger,” coach Eric Hely said in an interview.
He added, “I’m sure he can succeed in Madrid and wherever he wants. I think he would fit in very well with Xabi.”
Although Real Madrid’s interest in Ibrahima Konate is strong, the club will reportedly not attempt to sign him this summer.
It is understood that Madrid will wait and sign the centre-back on a free transfer next summer.
