Ivorian defender Adama Ardile Traoré returns to Europe with move to Bulgaria’s CSKA 1948

Adama Ardile Traoré has completed a return to European football, signing a three-year deal with Bulgarian top-flight side CSKA 1948 following a successful spell in the Ivorian domestic league.

The 25-year-old central defender, who recently helped Stade d’Abidjan clinch the Ivorian Ligue 1 title, will remain with the Sofia-based club until June 2028.

His transfer was officially confirmed via CSKA 1948’s Instagram account, marking a new chapter for the Ivorian as he looks to establish himself in European football after a previous short-lived stint on the continent.

A product of the Ivorian football system, Traoré came through the ranks at Abidjan City FC before joining Stade d’Abidjan, where he revitalised his career following a challenging period.

His time with the Yéyés was instrumental in reasserting his presence as a reliable and composed figure in central defence. His leadership and consistency at the back were central to Stade d’Abidjan’s domestic success during the 2024–2025 season.

This move marks Traoré’s second foray into European football. In 2021, he joined Belgian side Waasland-Beveren, then competing in the country’s second division.

However, his time in Belgium was limited, with only two appearances recorded. The lack of game time and difficulty adapting led to his departure after a single season and an eventual return to Côte d’Ivoire.

Following that experience, Traoré endured a prolonged period without a club. It wasn’t until September 2023 that he re-emerged on the professional scene, signing with Stade d’Abidjan, where he successfully rebuilt his reputation.

His performances throughout the season not only helped the club secure the league title but also caught the attention of scouts across Europe.

Now set to begin a new chapter with CSKA 1948, Traoré will look to make a stronger impression than during his first European spell.

The Bulgarian side, currently competing in the First Professional Football League, views the Ivorian as a key addition to their defensive unit as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.

For Traoré, the move offers both a second chance and a vital opportunity to prove his quality on a European stage. With three years ahead of him at CSKA 1948, the defender is expected to play a significant role in the club’s ambitions domestically and potentially in continental competition.

While the transition from Ivorian football to Eastern Europe may present its challenges, Traoré arrives with renewed confidence and the experience of overcoming adversity.

His journey from youth football in Abidjan to champion in Côte d’Ivoire and now back to Europe stands as a testament to his determination and professional growth.

As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on how Traoré adapts to life in Bulgaria and whether this move can serve as the platform he has long been seeking to elevate his career to the next level.
