Cameroon drop in FIFA rankings as André Onana suffers injury blow at Manchester United
Cameroon have slipped to 51st place in the latest FIFA world rankings, falling one spot from their previous position in June.
The update, released on July 13, reflects a slight dip in form for the Indomitable Lions ahead of a critical phase in their international campaign.
The next update from world football’s governing body is scheduled for September 18, 2025.
This marginal drop comes as the team continues to rebuild under head coach Marc Brys, who has faced scrutiny following mixed results in recent international fixtures.
While the decline is minimal, it highlights the increasingly competitive landscape of African football, with several continental rivals making gains in the global standings.
Elsewhere, there is concern in England for Cameroonian international André Onana, who has suffered a hamstring injury during Manchester United’s pre-season preparations at their Carrington training base.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper is now expected to be sidelined for up to two months, ruling him out of United’s pre-season tour and their opening Premier League fixture against Arsenal on August 17.

This setback is a major blow for Manchester United and manager Julen Lopetegui, who had pencilled Onana in as the undisputed first-choice between the posts heading into the new campaign.
The injury disrupts Onana’s preparation and raises questions about the club’s goalkeeping depth with the season fast approaching.
Onana, who joined United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023, has become a key figure at Old Trafford, known for his composure, distribution, and commanding presence.
His absence could force the Red Devils to turn to backup options or consider a short-term signing as a precaution.
Meanwhile, fans of the Indomitable Lions will be watching closely to see how the goalkeeper recovers ahead of Cameroon’s upcoming international commitments, particularly with AFCON qualifiers and friendly fixtures on the horizon.
