Black Stars sensation Mohammed Kudus has become the most expensive Ghanaian player in history following his big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Kudus, 24, completed a long-term move from West Ham United to Spurs in a deal worth £55 million, surpassing the previous record held by Thomas Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid for £45.3 million in 2020.
Kudus’ transfer eclipses his own earlier move to West Ham in August 2023, which was valued at £38 million, placing it third among the most expensive deals involving Ghanaian players. Ghana legend Michael Essien (£24.4 million to Chelsea) and Ernest Nuamah (£22 million to Lyon) round out the top five.
His switch to North London ends weeks of speculation surrounding his future, with clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea reportedly expressing strong interest in securing his signature.
The former Ajax star impressed during his time with West Ham, netting 19 goals in 80 appearances across all competitions and showcasing his versatility and flair in the final third.
Kudus is expected to link up with his new teammates this week for pre-season under manager Thomas Frank.
His first major test in Tottenham colours will come in the UEFA Super League showdown against European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Many believe Kudus’ move to Tottenham is a major step forward in his career.
