Antalyaspor begin formal talks with Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru

Antalyaspor have entered direct negotiations with Nigerian international Henry Onyekuru, as the Turkish club look to secure the striker on a three-year deal following his recent rejection of proposals from Kocaelispor and Istanbul Başakşehir.

Discussions are being led through the agency Foot&Ball, with the Antalya-based side reportedly keen to meet both the financial and sporting expectations of the 27-year-old.

A source close to the agency confirmed to Africafoot that Onyekuru remains open to a move, but is carefully weighing up all his options—including approaches from both Turkish and Saudi Arabian sides—before making a final decision.

“Antalyaspor are fully engaged in talks with Henry for a three-year contract,” the insider revealed. “They are willing to meet all of his demands in order to secure the deal ahead of other interested clubs.

However, Henry is taking his time and won’t be rushed into a decision. He’s analysing all his offers thoroughly before committing.”

The Super Lig outfit are pushing to finalise the agreement swiftly, hoping to arrange a direct flight to bring the player to Turkey for medical examinations and the formal signing of the contract.

Club officials are optimistic that early consensus on terms could help fend off late interest from other potential suitors.

Onyekuru, who spent last season with Al Fayha in the Saudi Pro League, made 38 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring 11 goals and contributing three assists.

He joined the side in 2023 from Turkish team Adana Demirspor, where he had previously enjoyed a productive campaign with eight goals and two assists in 30 appearances.

Despite a promising start in Saudi Arabia, Onyekuru’s involvement in his final season was limited to just four matches, prompting renewed speculation over his future. His current market value is listed at €3 million by Transfermarkt.

A well-travelled forward, Onyekuru boasts experience across multiple European leagues. He previously featured for Olympiakos in Greece, Galatasaray in Turkey, AS Monaco in France, and Everton in the English Premier League.

He also enjoyed stints in Belgium with both Anderlecht and KAS Eupen, where his performances first drew the attention of clubs across Europe.

Internationally, the Nigerian forward has earned 15 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring once and registering two assists. He last appeared for the national team in 2023. In March of this year, French Ligue 1 club Toulouse FC were also reportedly interested in acquiring his services, as first reported by Africafoot.

While Antalyaspor continue to press for a deal, Onyekuru’s camp remains focused on ensuring the next move aligns with both his career ambitions and personal terms. For now, the final decision rests with the player, as interest from across two continents continues to mount.

The race to sign one of Nigeria’s most experienced forwards remains open.
