Real Betis have confirmed the signing of Moroccan centre-back Mohamed Yassine Hamdoune on a contract running until 2029.
The 21-year-old becomes the first new addition to Betis Deportivo ahead of the 2025–2026 campaign. The club, which is also preparing for its return to the UEFA Europa League next season, made the announcement through an official statement released on Wednesday.
Hamdoune, a product of Morocco’s prestigious Mohammed VI Academy, arrives in Seville having built his professional experience in Spain’s lower divisions.
He most recently featured for Antequera CF in the Segunda Federación, the country’s third tier, following a previous spell at RB Linense.
Despite his young age, the defender has already earned recognition on the international stage, representing Morocco at U20 level. His move to Betis is seen as a key step in his development, as he now joins a club with a strong track record of nurturing young talent.
While the Moroccan is expected to initially link up with Betis Deportivo, the club’s B team, he is likely to train under the watchful eye of Javi Medina, who will oversee his integration into the defensive structure.
Medina and his coaching staff will look to refine Hamdoune’s tactical discipline and positional awareness, with the long-term aim of developing him into a first-team option.
The length of the contract, running through to 2029, reflects the club’s belief in Hamdoune’s potential and long-term value. His athleticism, composure on the ball, and ability to read the game have been praised by those familiar with his performances in the Spanish lower leagues.
Trained in one of Africa’s top football academies, Hamdoune’s transition to European football began early. His time at Linense and Antequera exposed him to the physical and tactical demands of Spanish football, giving him a solid foundation to build upon in Seville.
Real Betis, known for their attacking flair and technical football, have increasingly looked to reinforce their defensive options with young, adaptable players.
Hamdoune fits that mould, bringing with him a blend of discipline from his academy training and match experience from a competitive domestic environment.
The move also represents a continuation of Morocco’s growing footprint in European football, as more academy graduates seek to make their mark on the continent.
Hamdoune will now be aiming to follow in the footsteps of several compatriots who have risen through the ranks in Spain to earn senior international recognition.
With pre-season preparations set to begin shortly, the young defender will have his first opportunity to impress his new coaches and teammates. For Hamdoune, the transfer marks a significant moment in a career still in its early stages but already full of promise.
Real Betis’ decision to secure his services for the next four years highlights their confidence in his abilities—and their belief that the Moroccan international has what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
